Twenty-three floats will participate in this year’s National Day parade on October 10th. This year marks the 108th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of China. The Republic of China is Taiwan’s official name.

An official ceremony is set to be held in front of the Presidential Office on Thursday, to be followed by a parade. There are also performances by the armed forces, students and civic groups.

Twenty-three floats will be on display on National Day. They include Taipei’s mascot “Bravo the Bear,” a smiling God of the Earth, and a tiger that brings people wealth and fortune. One float is devoted to Taiwan’s new indigenous planes.

Deputy Interior Minister  Chen Tsung-yen, the parade’s organizer, said some floats will showcase the government’s major polices. For example, one features the Courageous Eagle, an indigenous Advanced Jet Trainer launched last month. There is also a submarine float as Taiwan plans to build its own submarines.

The Taiwan High Speed Rail will present a float. A company official said the tracks on the front are a symbol of its spirit of moving forward.

Taiwan’s flagship carrier, China Airlines, will join the float parade. The airline has won many awards for its floats at the Rose Parade in Los Angeles over the past few decades.
