The foreign ministry says Nauruan President Lionel Aingimea is set to visit Taiwan in December.
A foreign ministry official said on Tuesday that President Aingimea will not be able to attend Taiwan’s National Day celebrations next week, nor will Tuvalu’s Prime Minister Kausea Natano. Both leaders took office recently.
The official said the foreign ministry is planning to send a delegation to Tuvalu to discuss bilateral cooperation, possibly in mid-October or early November. Taiwan currently has four remaining diplomatic ties in the South Pacific after two recently switched allegiance to Beijing.
The Republic of China is scheduled to celebrate its 108th National Day celebrations next Thursday. Two Japanese delegations will visit Taiwan to attend the event.
The Republic of China is Taiwan’s official name.
